New head coach Tyler Marsh and general manager Jeff Pagliocca added some star power to join Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso at Wintrust Arena come May, selecting TCU standout guard Hailey Van Lith at No. 11 overall – a pick they acquired from the Minnesota Lynx one night before the draft.
They kept their original No. 10 pick as well, taking 19-year-old Slovenian Ajša Sivka one spot before Van Lith. In the later rounds, they selected Notre Dame power forward Maddy Westbeld at No. 16 overall and Texas A&M guard Aicha Coulibaly at No. 22 overall.

Van Lith, Westbeld and Coulibaly addressed the media Thursday as part of their first official duties as members of the team. It is unclear whether Sivka will begin the season with the team, as she has international duties with the Slovenian team when the EuroBasket tournament takes place in June.
With training camp slated to begin April 27 and the Sky kicking off the 2025 season on May 17 in Indianapolis against Caitlin Clark and the Fever, here’s how experts rated the Sky’s selections.

Analysis: “A lot of this grade depends on Sivka, a highly regarded teen who, like Malonga, doesn’t turn 20 until November. If she adapts well to the WNBA, the Sky could have a very good young post core, with Sivka alongside sophomores Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. Van Lith, who played one season at LSU with Reese, reached the Elite Eight five times as a college player; we will see if she continues that success in the pro game. Westbeld might have a chance to make the roster, too.”

Analysis: “The Sky addressed the team’s glaring weaknesses with their back-to-back first-round picks, although their choices do not come without risk. With Ajša Sivka, a 19-year-old Slovenian, they scored a potentially elite shooter with size. An admitted admirer of the Liberty’s Leonie Fiebich, Sivka can hopefully help the Sky fans forget that they once held Fiebich’s rights. However, it might take more than a few seasons to reach that upside. Chicago also hopefully grabbed their point guard of the future with TCU’s Hailey Van Lith. An improved playmaker during her final college season, she now will hone those skills under the tutelage of one the W’s greatest offensive operators in Courtney Vandersloot. But at just 5-foot-7, Van Lith likely will need to improve her shooting efficiency to succeed as a starting-level guard.”

Analysis: “Hailey Van Lith reuniting with former LSU teammate Angel Reese is going to be fun to watch. Both players are highly competitive, but they’re also different players than they were when they played together in Baton Rouge, La. Van Lith is a better point guard while Reese has been working with Lisa Leslie on her offensive game. Ajša Sivka is an intriguing prospect with significant upside due to her ability to stretch the floor. The Maddy Westbeld pick felt like a reach, but she does fill a need for Chicago, as she can stretch the floor and knock down the 3.”
