The Cubs have diehard fans all over the world.

Taylor Swift has diehard fans all over the world.

So it makes sense that there might be a bit of an overlap between the two fanbases.

And that overlap apparently has helped the Cubs of late.

That’s because the team is actually crediting the pop icon with an assist.

Let Craig Counsell explain:

“I was gifted a Taylor Swift candle and we’ve been lighting that before games in my office with clubhouse manager Danny Mueller,” a smiling Counsell told Marquee Sports Network’s Taylor McGregor. “And we’ve gone on a nice little run here so we’re gonna credit Taylor Swift.”

After Tuesday’s 9-5 win, the Cubs are now 15-8 in August and have won 4 straight series.

McGregor went into more detail on the Marquee Sports Network broadcast during the 5th inning Tuesday night, explaining that the Cubs keep track of wins with a hash mark on the candle. Monday marked the 7th win for the team when lighting the candle before the game and now they can check an 8th mark off for Tuesday’s victory.

It certainly appears to be working for them.
