5 years agoStaff Report

The virtual Cubs bats were due for a big day and they put one together against the Pirates.

The Cubs strung together 13 hits – 5 of them extra base hits – en route to an 8-2 over Pittsburgh in our 2020 season simulation of MLB The Show. The Cubs improved to 18-12 on the season and sit 2.5 games back of the Reds in the NL Central.

Pittsburgh struck first, scoring a pair of runs off starter Tyler Chatwood in the 1st. Chatwood settled down after that, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3 in 5 innings of work.

The Cubs rallied immediately. In the bottom of the 1st, David Bote had an RBI double, Jason Heyward had a sacrifice fly and Victor Caratini had an RBI single to give the Cubs the lead for good.

Kyle Schwarber and David Bote added a pair of RBI singles in the 2nd, Kris Bryant had a 2-run triple in the 5thand Hernán Pérez had a solo home run in the 7th to round out the scoring.

The Cubs will look to win the series Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. on our Facebook page.
