Ultimate Cubs Lineup Tournament: Mark DeRosa crowned champion
We have our new champion.
After two weeks of Ultimate Cubs Lineup Tournament action, Mark DeRosa’s team was crowned the best of the bunch.
It started with a win over Carlos Peña, followed by a victory at the expense of Jim Deshaies and then a shutout of Doug Glanville.
Then came the championship, when he dismantled my team 4-3.
Anthony Rizzo played the hero with an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning, a 2-out knock to drive home Ernie Banks. It was the 2nd RBI of the game for Rizzo, who also homered to lead off the bottom of the 2nd inning.
Banks knocked in the other runs with a 2-run shot in the 3rd inning.
For Team Andracki, Kris Bryant notched a 2-run double in the 3rd inning, driving home Kenny Lofton and Jake Arrieta. In the 7th, a Ryne Sandberg error led to an unearned run to tie the game.
That set the stage for Rizzo’s heroics. Manager DeRosa didn’t even need to activate himself off the bench in the game.
Kerry Wood picked up the win with 1.1 perfect frames while Lee Smith suffered the loss for Team Andracki.
