Seiya Suzuki carried the Cubs offense in blowout of Marlins

3 months agoAndy Martinez

The last two seasons, Seiya Suzuki has ended the season strong.

He might be starting another heater to end the 2024 campaign — and it’s coming at the perfect time.

Suzuki cranked a pair of home runs in his first two at-bats as the Cubs beat the Marlins 14-2 in Miami. It was Suzuki’s 3rd multi-homer game in his career. His last multi-homer game came on May 17, 2023 against the Astros.

The right fielder added an RBI triple in the top of the 7th.

The last two seasons, Suzuki has performed at his best at the end of the year. In 2022, he hit .321 with a .926 OPS in the month of September and last year he had 7 home runs and hit .370/.434/.685 (1.120 OPS) with 26 RBI.

With 2 outs in the top of the 1st, Suzuki hit a no-doubt home run to center field off Valente Bellozo. Suzuki’s blast was 103.8-mph off his bat and traveled 412 feet.

In his second at-bat in the 3rd inning, Suzuki one-upped himself. His second blast was a 110.3-mph no-doubter to left-center field that went 446 feet.

Suzuki came up to bat in the 4th inning with 2 outs and runners on second and third. He took the first pitch for a ball and was intentionally walked, spoiling an opportunity to start the day 3-for-3 with 3 home runs.

It was the highlight of a strong offensive day for the Cubs. All 9 starters in their lineup reached base and either scored or drove in a run in the victory.
