Running back Darrynton Evans making most of new opportunity with Bears
With an injury to the running back room in Khalil Herbert, Chicago Bears fans have now met Darrynton Evans as he’s moved up the depth chart. In the game against the New York Jets, Evans racked up 67 scrimmage yards with 9 touches for 34 yards on the ground and one reception for 33 yards.
“With me coming into the game, I really didn’t know I was going to get that many touches. I was really just trying to contribute. It’s just trying to make the most of your opportunities when you get the chances,” Evans said.
Evans was a 3rd round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2020 and was claimed off waivers by the Bears in March of 2022. Since joining Chicago, Evans tries his best to soak up as much information as he can from his fellow running backs.
“With David [Montgomery], he’s one of those shifty kind of guys, but he runs angry. He’s probably the angriest runner I’ve been around my entire career,” Evans said laughing. “Khalil is one of those slippery guys that just makes it happen. Even with Trestan [Ebner], he’s just a speed demon. It’s just taking stuff from every guy, learning from each other and trying to sharpen each other every week.”
Entering into rivalry week against Green Bay, Evans also got a true taste of why it’s the oldest rivalry in the NFL.
“I didn’t know it was to this extent until I really got here. The tradition of this game, the rivalry, it’s crazy,” Evans said.
