Cubs breakout star Pete Crow-Armstrong having ‘the most fun’ this year

1 week agoKyle Millinowisch

Pete Crow-Armstrong is becoming must-see TV every night.

Whether it’s hitting a clutch home run or making a stellar defensive play, it’s easy to see why Crow-Armstrong is so fun to watch. The 23-year-old is the only player in MLB history to record at least 5 home runs, 10 stolen bases and 15 extra-base hits in April.

Is Crow-Armstrong having fun? You bet he is.

During Sunday night’s broadcast on ESPN, Crow-Armstrong was mic’d up during the top of the 3rd inning – moments after he gave the Cubs the lead with an RBI double.

“How much fun are you having? And that’s different than competing and winning, I’m talking about real fun,” Karl Ravech asked Crow-Armstrong.

“Winning aside, competing is about as fun as it gets,” Crow-Armstrong replied. “If you can go lace them up and be ready to play nine innings every day and show up for your teammates, that’s the most fun part.

“It’s definitely easy to take that when you’re winning ballgames and the lineup is banging. But I’ve had arguably the most fun I’ve ever had playing baseball in my career this year.”

Crow-Armstrong and the Cubs started the season with a daunting schedule – each opponent currently has a record of .500 or better. Despite that, the Cubs entered play Monday leading the NL Central with a 17-12 record.

Over the last two weeks, Crow-Armstrong has been on fire. In 12 games, he’s hitting .413/.426/.913 with five home runs, 14 RBI and six stolen bases. He kicked it all off with a two-homer game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

The Cubs went 7-5 during that stretch but played some of the best teams in the league (three games each against the Dodgers, Padres, Diamondbacks and Phillies). If the Cubs are going to return to the postseason for the first time since 2020, Crow-Armstrong will be an integral part.
