Pat Hughes sees Kyle Tucker deal as ‘statement trade’ for Cubs
The Chicago Cubs have taken over headlines this week: first with the acquisition of former Houston Astro Kyle Tucker in a trade and the public apology from former Cub Sammy Sosa to the organization.
That apology led to a flurry of support, love and respect from fans on social media, crediting Sosa for the origin of their Cubs fandom, wanting to see him welcomed back at Wrigley Field and much more.

With this new energy from fans towards Sosa, Hughes also believes that the franchise making the move to acquire Kyle Tucker is a rejuvenating move that harkens back to the 2010’s where the Cubs were setting themselves up to be a postseason contender in 2014.
“[The Kyle Tucker trade] almost reminded me back in the middle of the last decade when the Cubs signed Jon Lester to the big free agent contract. It’s one of those moves that’s kind of a statement trade. The statement is ‘We are now trying to win immediately. This year.’ I think everyone in the organization – fans included – is more than ready to see the Cubs play some postseason baseball once again.”
