Thomas Brown formally interviews for Bears full-time head coach position
UPDATE: The Bears announced that Thomas Brown has completed his interview in the team’s coaching search. He was interim head coach for the last five games of the 2024 season.
Thomas Brown said last week that he’d get an opportunity to interview for the full-time position as Bears head coach. He held the interim tag over the final five games of Chicago’s season, after Matt Eberflus was fired.

Originally hired as Bears passing game coordinator, Brown quickly rose up the ranks out of necessity. He became offensive coordinator/play caller when Shane Waldron got let got and promoted again after Eberflus’ dismissal.
While his efforts were praised and Brown was respected in the locker room, he was charged with using first aid to treat a major injury and ended up going 1-4 as team leader.
The Bears are launching a significant coaching search with a shocking number of interviews in the initial round.
Brown, it turns out, will get one on Monday. NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro first reported the news.
General manager Ryan Poles praised Brown as a “truth teller,” someone who was unafraid to speak his mind and have tough conversations.
While Brown welcomed the formal interview, he said last week that having Poles watch him work every day will offer great insight into how he would conduct himself as full-time head coach, albeit with the opportunity to set a proper foundation and install his preferred schemes.
“Having a chance to lay out my whole vision, the plan I have for this football team moving forward is going to be a part of it,” Brown said in a press conference. “But I think them having a chance to see me in the building is something that to me should be more impressive than everything else.”
