NFL rumors: Bears look to interview from one of league’s best offenses for coach opening

2 days agoAndy Martinez

As the Bears search for ways to improve their offense and maximize quarterback Caleb Williams, offensive minds will be prime targets for their head coach opening.

And the offensive coordinator for one of the league’s best offenses is a prime candidate.

The team has requested to interview Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday morning.

The Bills are in the wild-card round of the playoffs, taking on the Broncos on Sunday, so Brady can’t conduct a virtual interview until three days after their game on Sunday.

Brady has been the offensive coordinator for the Bills since 2023, when he took the job on an interim basis. He replaced Ken Dorsey after 10 games — in which Buffalo was 5-5 — and helped lead the Bills to wins in 6 of their final 7 games and an AFC East title. He was promoted to the full-time OC after the season.

This year, The Bills offense ranked second in points scored and 10th in yards en route to a 13-4 record and the 2-seed in the AFC. Brady and the Bills maximized their performance out of quarterback Josh Allen, who performed at an MVP-level for the Bills this past season.

That would be a tantalizing prospect for the Bears.

In 2024, the Bears had one of the worst offenses in football, finishing 28th in points scored and last in yards. General manager Ryan Poles met with media on Tuesday morning and stressed the need for a coach that can help maximize Williams as he enters his second NFL season.

Brady joined the Bills in 2022 as the quarterbacks coach, after spending two seasons as offensive coordinator with Carolina. Prior to his time with the Panthers, he was the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach with LSU the year the Tigers won the National Championship and quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman Trophy.
