NFL rumors: Bears ask to interview Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver for coach job
The Bears have submitted a request to interview Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported Monday.
Weaver’s name wasn’t widely circulating around the Bears vacancy until the weekend, when Chicago’s interest was first made known.

Weaver took some head-coach interviews this time last year but ultimately ended up running the Dolphins defense. He turned that unit around in a flash and was immensely popular with his defenders and in the Dolphins locker room overall.
Since Miami is did not qualify for the playoffs, the Bears are eligible to interview him (virtually) for the first time starting on Wednesday, per NFL rules. Should he advance to the next round, Weaver can’t interview in person until Jan. 19.
Weaver rose up the NFL ranks as a defensive line coach, first with the New York Jets. He had stops in Buffalo and Cleveland before a five-year stint in Houston, where he got his first crack at defensive coordinator. He moved to Baltimore for three seasons, the last two as assistant head coach.
He played seven seasons in the NFL, not shockingly, with Baltimore and Houston.
The Bears have also submitted interview requests to speak with Detroit’s Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, Arizona’s Drew Petzing, Pittsburgh’s Arthur Smith, Minnesota’s Brian Flores and the New York Giants’ Mike Kafka.
