MLB rumors: Justin Turner’s Cubs contract incentives, options detailed
The Cubs felt like they needed to add a veteran depth bat to their bench and addressed that void with Justin Turner.

MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman reported on the details of Turner’s contract with the Cubs:
According to Heyman, Turner will get $4 million in 2025 and then will have a $10 million mutual option for 2026 with a $2 million buyout.
So he has $6 million guaranteed plus other bonuses around plate appearances and time on the active roster.

Turner turned 40 in November and is entering his 17th MLB season.
A $10 million salary for a 41-year-old feels like a lofty total right now, but Turner was still a very productive hitter during his age-39 season (.737 OPS, 114 OPS+).
For the Cubs, this is a worthwhile investment for a veteran hitter who has been around a lot of winning and seen all this game has to offer. He can serve as a leader for a lot of players, including rookie Matt Shaw and 2nd-year first baseman Michael Busch.
Turner also serves as valuable depth at several positions – namely first base and DH – and the Cubs know they will need to tap into every aspect of the roster throughout a marathon 162-game season.
If an injury pops up in the outfield, Seiya Suzuki can slide into the field and open up regular DH at-bats for Turner. The veteran infielder can also see some spot starts at third base and spell Busch at first base.
