Cubs OF Ian Happ reacts to addition of new teammate Kyle Tucker
Ian Happ is excited to have Kyle Tucker as a Cub.
His talent and star power has a trickle-down effect on the rest of the team that the Gold Glove left fielder is excited to experience.
“As a player, it makes your life easier,” Happ said on the latest edition of his podcast, The Compound. “You get to hit around him, in front, behind, wherever; having a guy like that who is in the lineup, it just makes everybody’s job easier. It’s pretty great, as a teammate.”
Happ and his pod mates, Dakota Mekkes and Zach Short, discussed the recent acquisition of Tucker and the impact he has on the Cubs lineup. In a lot of ways, Tucker was a player that was overlooked in Houston, because of the star talent the Astros possessed.
“Does everything well,” Happ said. “Couldn’t really ask for more to put in the middle of the lineup. Been underrated because Carlos Correa, Yordan Alvarez, José Altuve, Alex Bregman, all the dudes on that team. He kinda came up with all those guys bopping and then he was sneaky.”

Tucker has been one of the best players in baseball since he was a full-time major leaguer in 2020. In parts of 7 seasons, he’s posted a 21.1 fWAR and a 139 weighted runs created plus, 39 percentage points above league average. He’s hit 125 home runs with an .869 OPS in his career.
“He’s kinda flown under the radar, but you look at the numbers, they’re pretty dang impressive,” Happ said. “Super excited to have him.
