Former Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks continues to dominate St. Louis Cardinals
Kyle Hendricks may no longer be in Cubs’ pinstripes, but he’s still dominating the St. Louis Cardinals like he never left Chicago.

The 35-year-old veteran righty shined on Tuesday in his first start for the Los Angeles Angels, posting six innings of two-run ball while striking out four Cardinals. Los Angeles would go on to win 9-7 in 11 innings, providing a boost in the N.L. Central standings for the Cubs who now inch closer to the early division leaders.
“Just an awesome win,” Hendricks told reporters after the Angels’ thriller. “Just back-to-back nights like that … so fun to watch, man.”
St. Louis is a familiar foe for Hendricks, whom he faced 27 times in his 12-year Cubs career. In those starts, he posted a 2.51 ERA in 179 innings pitched.
In a full-circle moment, Hendricks signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Angels last November. He was originally drafted out of high school by the club in 2008 but elected to play at Dartmouth College instead.
Hendricks was then drafted out of Dartmouth by the Texas Rangers in 2011, and landed in Chicago via the trade that sent Ryan Dempster to Texas a year later. He made his Cubs debut in 2014, posting a 2.46 ERA and a 7-2 record in his rookie season.

The Cubs’ World Series-winning 2016 saw was Hendricks’ best, which saw him start 30 games with a 2.13 ERA. That earned him the National League Pitching Title, as well as third place in Cy Young Award voting where he finished right behind then-teammate Jon Lester.
Though Hendricks struggled in his final season with the Cubs, his relationship with Chicago never soured.
“Chicago will always be so special in my heart,” Hendricks said after signing with the Angels. “It’s family.”
