Kyle Hendricks joined elite company during his start for Cubs Saturday
As Kyle Hendricks painted the outside corner with an 86 mph sinker in the 3rd inning, he cemented his spot in Cubs lore forever.
Nationals center fielder Dylan Crews became Hendricks’ 1,250th strikeout victim as a starting pitcher – making him the 6th starter in Cubs history to achieve the milestone:
Hendricks joins a list of Cubs legends to accomplish the feat as a starting pitcher:
- Fergie Jenkins – 1,956 strikeouts
- Carlos Zambrano – 1,513
- Rick Reuschel – 1,351
- Greg Maddux – 1,300
- Kerry Wood – 1,282
- Kyle Hendricks – 1,250

Saturday marked Hendricks’ 269th career start in a Cubs uniform. He has also made 6 appearances as a reliever (5 of which have come this season).
He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in 5.1 innings against the Nationals Saturday. He departed with a pair of runners on and 1 out in the 6th inning and Cubs reliever Keegan Thompson promptly gave up a 3-run homer.
Hendricks is a free agent at the end of the year and with an uncertain future, Saturday could represent one of his last games at Wrigley Field in a Cubs uniform.
