Matt Eberflus’ new look in February was a hit with Bears fans.

But there wasn’t ever a real explanation of why the Bears coach opted to go with a new-look beard and a fresh haircut. That is, until the first episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks”.

Kelly Eberflus, Matt’s wife, shared the story of how the viral look came about.

“After the season was over and he finally had some time off, he just didn’t shave for a couple of days cause he wasn’t going into the office,” Kelly Eberflus said. “And he started growing the beard and I’m like, ‘You know what? I really like that.’

“And then I got this bright idea that ‘I got to do something with your hair.’”

So, Kelly sent Matt and the Bears barber three different styles — including that of Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds as inspiration and a fresh appearance was born.

“My wife, she liked it,” Matt Eberflus said. “And that’s the most important critic for me. If she likes it, then I’m going to keep it.”

 The new look stuck — and was a viral hit among fans on social media.

“He thinks he looks cool now,” Kelly Eberflus said with a laugh. “I think he looks cool, too.”
