Don Kessinger featured in newest ‘Icons of the Ivy’
Marquee Sports Network is set to premiere a new episode of Icons of the Ivy presented by Miller Lite as WGN Radio’s Bob Sirott sits down for a 1-on-1 conversation with Cubs legend Don Kessinger. Taped last year on the campus of Ole Miss, Kessinger’s alma mater, Sirott goes in-depth with the Cubs Hall of Famer about his Cubs playing days and post-career memories, looking back on the memorable 1969 team, stories of Leo Durocher and more.
Icons of the Ivy with Don Kessinger premieres Tuesday, January 3, at 7 PM CT.
The interview with Kessinger is the latest installment in the Icons of the Ivy series with Bob Sirott, which premiered last year with a series of four never-before-seen interviews taped from 2010 and 2011 with Cubs icons, including Ernie Banks, Glenn Beckert, Randy Hundley and Ron Santo.
Kessinger, 80, was a six-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove Award winner, playing 12 seasons with the Cubs from 1964-75., including a club-record 1,618 games at shortstop. The switch-hitting infielder had his best offensive season in 1969, hitting .273 with 53 RBI, earning MVP votes in addition to the first of his two Gold Gloves and his second of five-consecutive All-Star nominations.
