David Montgomery praises toughness and leadership from Bears quarterback Justin Fields
If there’s a few things that Bears running back David Montgomery loves about his teammate Justin Fields, it’s his leadership and toughness.
Montgomery was the lead back with teammate Khalil Herbert placed on the IR with a hip injury last week. The Bears running game is ranked first in the NFL, with their quarterback, Justin Fields, leading the charge with 834 rushing yards.
“It’s impressive for me to see as a running back and seeing him take off and run like a running back. It’s super cool to see knowing his toughness and his heart and his will to now go down when most quarterbacks would slide. It’s very impressive,” Montgomery said on this week’s Bear Essentials with Elise Menaker.
Montgomery also describes what makes Fields an incredible leader in the locker room toward other teammates.
“He is probably the leader on the team. All of us look to Justin and he always puts his cape on. He’s an incredible leader. He listens to everybody, he’s a real humble guy and he just wants to win ultimately make this organization and this team as good as they can be,” Montgomery praising his quarterback.
On Sunday, Montgomery totaled 121 scrimmage yards against the Falcons, including a rushing touchdown in a 27-24 loss to Atlanta. Montgomery preaches that the team keeps the morale together despite losing in close games.
“First and foremost, we have to keep the morale together as a team but also looking in the mirror, point the thumb at yourself and ask yourself ‘what can you do better as an individual?’ so that we all can play as one 11 and we can be the best version of ourselves,”
