The rumor has now become official.

The Cubs will play the Cincinnati Reds in the 2022 Field of Dreams game, Major League Baseball announced Friday afternoon.

The contest will take place on Thursday, Aug. 11 in Dyersville, Iowa. The two teams will have an off-day the following Friday and pick the three-game series back up Saturday, Aug. 13 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. FOX will broadcast the game nationally for the second straight year.

The first iteration of the game was played last week between the White Sox and the Yankees. It was a made-for-TV event with awesome visuals and a unique environment for a baseball game.

The Iowa field is just steps away from diamond where the iconic 1989 movie was filmed.

“We are honored to be selected for the second edition of MLB at Field of Dreams,” Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney said in a statement. “Given our long-standing affiliation with the Iowa Cubs and the fact the state is in our home television territory, the Cubs enjoy an incredible following in Iowa.

“We look forward to playing in front of our Iowa fans and expanding on the amazing success of the first Field of Dreams game.”
