Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner makes broadcasting debut during win

2 months agoKyle Millinowisch

Nico Hoerner had never been in the press box at Sloan Park.

“Fresh perspective, see the mountains a little bit more from up here,” the Gold Glove second baseman said. “I love Sloan Park. It’s a great place to play. So fun to see it from different angles.”

Hoerner is recovering from offseason flexor tendon surgery and isn’t quite ready for game action yet. However, he was ready to make his broadcasting debut.

While in the booth with Jon “Boog” Sciambi and Jim Deshaies, Hoerner talked about the “swagger” of teammate Pete Crow-Armstrong after his 2nd-inning double.

“The guy’s got some swagger to his game. It’s real,” Hoerner said during the broadcast. “He’s not doing it to try and look cooler than the next guy. It’s who he is. It’s how he lives.”

Hoerner discussed a variety of topics, including scoring from 2nd base on a wild pitch last season, how he feels about superstitions and a playful interview with Cubs hitting coach Dustin Kelly.
