Cubs planning for Marcus Stroman to return to rotation this week
All is going according to plan for Marcus Stroman.
Barring a setback over the next few days, the Cubs expect their Opening Day starter to return to the rotation Wednesday when first eligible to come off the IL.
Stroman threw a 50-pitch bullpen Friday and reports were all clear on Saturday in Toronto:
#Cubs Marcus Stroman threw 50 pitches in his bullpen yesterday. He checked out fine and the hope is still for him to come off IL when eligible.

“All signs point to he’ll be ready Wednesday,” David Ross said. “I’m pretty optimistic. Things pop up, things happen in between now and then. But the bullpen went good [Friday]. He’ll throw another one Sunday and be ready Wednesday if everything goes well.”
The Cubs host the White Sox at Wrigley Field Wednesday evening.
Stroman landed on the IL with hip inflammation on Aug. 1. The 32-year-old is having a solid season overall but struggled in 7 outings prior to the IL stint (9.00 ERA in 30 innings).
Stroman and the Cubs hope the time off and return to health will help him get back to his All-Star form.
