Cubs pitcher Jordan Wicks details new workout routine and his mindset for 2025
Heading into his 3rd season in the majors, Cubs pitcher Jordan Wicks feels really good following an offseason fitness regimen to get back in shape for 2025.
“We’ve been doing a lot of stuff,” the lefty said in an interview with Marquee Sports Network’s Elise Menaker at Cubs Convention. “A lot of it is cleaner eating, just taking care of what we’re eating. I’ve lost about 20 pounds, doing pilates twice a week. There’s nothing more humbling than going to pilates twice a week and having your wife kick your butt every time you go there.”

As Wicks caught up with Menaker on Day 2 of Cubs Convention, he explained how he hopes all the work this winter would benefit him by going through a full season without any injuries.
“I’m hoping to be able to be in better cardio shape, go deeper into games. I think last year we focused so much on strength we kind of forgot the other elements that go along with it and I think that caught up with me at the end of the year so I think it will help a lot of aspects of our game,” Wicks said.
Wicks pitched 11 games while dealing with injuries last season, posting a 5.48 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 46.0 innings. As the Cubs assemble the starting rotation ahead of the 2025 season, Wicks is willing to be called upon when needed.
Whether Wicks ends up as a swingman coming out of the bullpen or as a regular starter, he is focused more on the little things in preparing his body for whatever position he is thrown in.
“I think it’s focusing more on the details from day to day. Being able to focus each and every day of, ‘okay, I got to get my body in the best shape possible for the next day, whatever that means.’ You could be up out of the bullpen the next day or whether you’re on a five-day [routine], it’s understanding how those things change and what I need to do to get my body in a position to do that,” Wicks said.
