Cubs’ Ian Happ ‘not surprised’ Roki Sasaki signed with Dodgers

During the 2025 Cubs Convention, some MLB news broke with the Los Angeles Dodgers signing Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki, joining countrymen Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
As the news broke, Cubs left fielder Ian Happ joined Cole Wright and Jon ‘Boog’ Sciambi on the Marquee Sports Network set and made his feelings known on the Sasaki move: “That’s not surprising. I would’ve been surprised if it wasn’t the Dodgers.”
“They just won the World Series, and they got better,” Happ said. “It’ll be really interesting to see what they do if they go to a 6-man [rotation] and just try to provide less innings for more guys. They have the depth to do it, but obviously injuries and keeping guys healthy are the important thing. Obviously, a great add for them and a great young pitcher. It’ll be interesting to see what his big league career looks like.”

The Cubs were initially involved in conversations for Sasaki before falling out of the conversations earlier this week.
