Cubs drop Game 2 to Brewers

4 years agoTony Andracki

The Cubs and Brewers had a quick turnaround in the season-opening series.

First pitch for Saturday afternoon’s game was roughly 15.5 hours after the final pitch of Friday night’s contest and the Cubs couldn’t keep the momentum going.

After Kyle Hendricks’ masterpiece in the opener, the Cubs dropped Game 2 to the Brewers by a score of 8-3 Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Willson Contreras put the Cubs on the board early with an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st while serving as the DH in Saturday’s game.

But the Brewers responded with a run of their own in the top of the 2nd thanks to some heads-up baserunning by Lorenzo Cain. Two innings later, Ben Gamel’s 2-run triple gave the Brewers the lead and they never looked back from there.

Yu Darvish was charged with 3 of the runs in 4 innings of work while the Cubs bullpen gave up 2 homers and 5 runs in 5 innings.

Kyle Schwarber helped bring his team closer with a 2-run shot in the 5th inning, but it ultimately wasn’t enough as the Cubs dropped to 1-1 on the young season.
