1 month agoTony Andracki

The Cubs are looking to improve their bullpen this winter and they continued that endeavor with a pair of journeyman right-handers.

The team signed Phil Bickford and Brooks Kriske to minor-league deals this week and invited both to big-league Spring Training in February.

Bickford, 29, is a 6-foot-4 righty who was a 1st-round pick (18th overall) of the Giants back in 2015.

He has 187 career MLB games under his belt, including 8 in 2024 with the Yankees.

Bickford has a career 4.62 ERA with 2 saves and 21 holds while racking up 210 strikeouts in 189 innings.

His best season came in 2021 when he pitched 56 innings with the Dodgers and carried a 2.50 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 along with a 1.2 WAR.

Kriske, who turns 31 in February, doesn’t have the same level of experience as Bickford. He has pitched in just 20 MLB games and only 4 since 2023.

rotation in 2025 and 2026.

He has pitched for the Yankees, Orioles, Royals and Reds organizations and spent the entirety of 2024 in Triple-A, where he posted a 3.39 ERA with a whopping 81 strikeouts in 58.1 innings.

Kriske and Bickford join Eli Morgan (trade with Cleveland) and Rob Zastryzny (waivers) as bullpen options the Cubs have added so far this offseason.
