Carson Kelly revisits ‘sore’ moment in series-clinching Cubs win in LA

The Chicago Cubs won another important series in April out on the West Coast.
So, the vibes are high after their 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, but it also came with a few injuries along the way.
Designated hitter Seiya Suzuki exited Saturday night’s game after aggravating a wrist injury he originally sustained Monday against the Texas Rangers. Cubs manager Craig Counsell then announced Sunday that starting pitcher Justin Steele will undergo season-ending surgery on his left elbow.
Hours later, during Sunday night’s game, Cubs catcher Carson Kelly exited after being hit on the left hand by a 94-mph sinker from Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow. X-rays came back negative on Kelly’s left hand.
“It’s sore.” Kelly told reporters in LA after Sunday’s game. “I got X-rays. X-rays were good, and just really sore. That’s all.
“I’ve broken some bones up there before,” Kelly added. “I’ve gone through this process, and I’m just thankful that it’s not broken, and we’ll take it day-by-day.”
After Kelly exited, Miguel Amaya took over catching duties to finish out the win. Kelly is thankful Amaya stays prepared and is ready at any moment.
“It’s kudos to him,” Kelly said. “Just coming in and being prepared every single day. It’s a catcher’s worst nightmare when that happens. Another guy has to come in, but he’s prepared and he’s a pro, so kudos to him.”
While the signs indicate good news for Kelly, the catching tandem of him and Amaya has been an offensive force for the Cubs. Kelly’s numbers have been impressive in a limited amount of playing time, as he is hitting .417 (10-for-24) with four home runs and 13 RBI.
