Brett Favre believes Mike McCarthy is ‘perfect fit’ for Bears head coach

15 hours agoMatt Danielewicz

Monday morning, it was reported the Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy have not reached an agreement and the veteran coach is now a free agent according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

In his 18 seasons as head coach, McCarthy has a winning percentage of .608, including a record of 11-11 in the postseason and a Super Bowl victory with the Packers in 2010.

He started his head coaching career in Green Bay back in 2006 where he coached two quarterbacks, one of which is in the Hall of Fame and the other likely ticketed for Canton: Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.

Prior to Monday’s news of McCarthy and the Cowboys, Favre was asked by TMZ Sports whether his former head coach would be a fit for the Bears. Favre delivered a positive response on McCarthy and the possibility of coaching in Chicago with quarterback Caleb Williams.

“Mike has done a great job of developing young quarterbacks. So, if you’re looking at it from that perspective, yeah he’s a perfect fit,” said Favre of his former head coach.

While under McCarthy, Rodgers became a 2-time MVP throwing for over 4,000 yards in 7 seasons with McCarthy. He was a 6-time Pro-Bowler and a Super Bowl Champion in 2010.

The Bears are casting a wide net for their new head coach. They reached out to the Cowboys to ask for permission to interview McCarthy, though that request was initially declined.

Now that McCarthy is a free agent, he could interview with the Bears without restrictions.
