The Chicago Bears survived a Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans at Soldier Field. Now, the Bears get ready to face another AFC South opponent that is high-powered in the Houston Texans, who won their season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

Former Bears wide receiver Tom Waddle discussed how the Bears would be able to exploit this ‘elite’ receiver core in the Texans on Bear Essentials.

“This is going to be a more difficult challenge for the Bears defense because not only is this Texans offense elite, they’re very balanced,” Waddle said on Bear Essentials. “Last week against the Colts, they had better than 400 yards and 29 points, better than 200 yards rushing and better than 200 yards passing.”

Like the Bears, the Texans improved their offense by acquiring former Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon in a trade as well as all-pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs this offseason. There’s also the 2nd-year signal caller in C.J. Stroud who threw for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win over the Colts.

With the firepower the Texans have, Waddle believes the Bears secondary has to answer the challenge on Sunday night with Tyrique Stevenson, who earned NFC defensive player of the week honors, Jaylon Johnson, Kyler Gordon, Jaquan Brisker and Kevin Byard III.

“Everyone believes this is the best group of players on their entire football team,” Waddle said. “To much is given, much is expected. If you want to be considered an elite secondary in the National Football League, you’ve got to answer challenges like this and this is going to be a challenge.”
