Bears defense looks to continue incredible ascent after big game
Over the past few weeks, the Bears defense has gone through changes and those adjustments are starting to pay off.
In Monday night’s win against the Vikings, the defense played one of their best games of the season – the Bears intercepted Josh Dobbs 4 times, the most he has ever been picked off in a game.
The second interception came from safety Jaquan Brisker, which was the second of his career. Brisker celebrated in fashion, doing Minnesota’s ‘SKOL’ clap in front of the Vikings faithful. He said he wants to bring energy to every game.
“I just have to make sure I get my teammates going with that energy and passion,” Brisker said to Jeff Joniak on The Official Bears Postgame Live presented by United Airlines. “I’m going to do whatever it takes and give it my all … I have to get everybody involved.”
Currently, the Bears are third in the NFL in interceptions with 13 – only the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints have more. For Brisker, the focus is to continue improving.
“Even when we get 4 or 5 turnovers, just keep believing in each other and trusting each other,” Brisker said. “We have to keep this thing going and try to find a way.”
The Bears defense has improved up front as well since acquiring edge rusher Montez Sweat at the trade deadline. Chicago has tallied 7 sacks in the last 3 games, including 2 against the Vikings – Sweat had 1.5 and Brisker had 0.5.
Even with the defense playing well, Chicago was still down 10-9 late in the game before Justin Fields led the team on a 10 play, 68-yard drive to set up a Cairo Santos field goal. This included a 36-yard completion to DJ Moore to get the Bears into the red zone, which Brisker praised.
“His connection to DJ, we all know that’s special,” Brisker said. “For them to make that play at the end and Cairo to ice it, that’s a great feeling.”
Monday night was an important one for Brisker — it was his first win against a divisional opponent and the Bears’ first since November 2021.
“We knew this one was very important, especially here at Minnesota.” “Just coming in here, an important win, it’s great for this team and we have to keep going.”
