Angel Reese felt destined to join Sky in WNBA Draft

6 months agoKarli Bell

When the Chicago Sky drafted LSU forward Angel Reese in April at No. 7, Sky fans erupted with cheers and happiness online and at the Sky Draft party at Revolution Brewing.

Reese expected and saw herself in the Windy City.

“I didn’t want to go anywhere else but Chicago,” Reese said on Media Day. “I told T-Spoon that when they made their trade with the Lynx from 8 to 7. I knew I was going 7. So being able to come to a place that I wanted to and obviously be embraced here and loved here by an amazing coach, amazing fan base, amazing teammates is something I’m really about.”

Reese ranks in the Top 3 of rookies in points (10.9), total rebounds (9.0) and offensive rebounds (5.0). Her steal – or “cookies” – rate is also in the Top 5 in rookies and that’s a part of her game that she wants to see translate to the WNBA.

“They used to call me the microwave. I used to heat up real fast and take the ball quick,” Reese said. “When you’re from Baltimore, you take cookies, that’s what you call cookies, and I love defense. Just being able to get the defense going and then get Marina [Mabrey] a shot. Being able to have great shooters, great teammates and everybody being so unselfish. Everybody’s cheering for each other, and I just love to be a part of it.”
