A realistic path to the playoffs for the Cubs
How do the Cubs get to the playoffs in 2024?
They’re currently 59-63 and 6 games back in the National League Wild-Card race.
That includes a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Guardians in Cleveland this week.
Before Wednesday’s game in Cleveland, Marquee Sports Network’s Lance Brozdowski and Doug Glanville analyzed a realistic path to the postseason on “Cubs Live!”.
With 41 games remaining (at the time), Brozdowski determined the Cubs needed to go 28-13 over that stretch to get to 87 wins – which would potentially be enough to secure a Wild-Card spot.
Since the Cubs lost on Wednesday, that now means the Cubs would have to go 28-12 – a .700 winning percentage – the rest of the way to get to 87 wins.
Now, will it take 87 wins to get to the playoffs? Maybe not. Last year, the Arizona Diamondbacks won only 84 games, claimed the last playoff spot in the NL and rode a hot stretch all the way to the World Series.
Can it happen? Sure, it’s possible – especially since the Cubs boast the easiest schedule in the league over the rest of the season.
