Tis’ the season for giving and Cubs Charities continued its positive impact on the community by organizing a food drive to support Lakeview Pantry Saturday on Caretakers Way at Wrigley Field. Volunteers collected non-perishable food as Chicago gears up for the cold winter months.  

“We’ve been working with Lakeview Pantry for over two decades and not only did we open up our own Cubs ballpark to them during the pandemic, now we want to continue to support Lakeview Food Pantry,” Executive Director of Cubs Charities Alicia Gonzalez said.

The food drive focused on the most-needed non-perishable food items, such as macaroni and cheese, pasta, oatmeal, tuna and peanut butter. 

“The numbers are absolutely staggering. Food needs are up 200% this month as compared to one-year ago today,” Gonzalez said. “Lakeview Pantry isn’t just serving the Lakeview community, it’s actually serving clients from 40 different zip codes from across the Chicagoland area.” 

For those who were unable to attend Saturday’s event but wish to donate to Lakeview Pantry, Cubs Charities has placed large drop-off boxes to collect even more non-perishable food items at the Cubs Store located at Gallagher Way until December 20. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
