‘Everyone’s got to do their part’: Kyle Tucker eager to bring postseason back to Chicago

7 hours agoKarli Bell

Newest Chicago Cub Kyle Tucker spent his birthday weekend at his first Cub Convention at the Sheraton Grand. It was also one of the first times he was able to actually talk to and meet his new teammates since the blockbuster trade in December.

“A few of them reached out after the trade…but being able to come here and see them in person, talk to them, hang out and stuff is pretty cool,” Tucker said. “All the guys are great and very welcoming. Nico [Hoerner] had us all go to a restaurant after [Friday], and it was pretty nice.”

Tucker was a part of a trade where the Cubs sent pitcher Hayden Wesneski, third baseman Isaac Paredes and 2024 1st-round pick Cam Smith to Houston. While Smith is no longer part of the Cubs organization, he spent a couple weeks with Tucker and Cubs pitcher Nate Pearson this offseason.

“[Smith’s] a great kid. He kind of just came up, worked out and hit with us,” Tucker said. “Nate Pearson also works out with us. Cam came up for a 2-week period to do some stuff with us. He’s a great kid.”

Now that Tucker has met his new teammates, he’s ready to bring his postseason and World Series experience to Chicago to help try and end the 4-year postseason drought for the Cubs.

“This team hasn’t had that experience of playoff baseball in a while,” Tucker said. “Hopefully, I can bring that back. I’m just going to do my part. It’s not a one-man show here. I’m not the only one that goes out in the field and plays by myself.

“Everyone’s got to do their part, and I’m going to do mine, help guys with theirs and just try to elevate everyone around me.”
