Kerry Wood honored, humbled to go into Cubs Hall of Fame with teammate Aramis Ramírez
On Sunday, the Cubs are welcoming in two new members into the Cubs Hall of Fame: pitcher Kerry Wood and third baseman Aramis Ramírez.
For the former right-hander, Wood described how this weekend will be a humbling moment to be part of elite company.
“It’s crazy to even think that you are in the same category as those guys. As long as the Cubs have been around, obviously the history of this organization and franchise, to be put into that class is humbling,” Wood said on Cubs Live!
Wood was the 4th overall pick in the 1995 MLB Draft and throughout all the years he’s been around the organization, his perception of the fanbase and the federal landmark has remained unchanged.
“Walking back into the stadium and into the neighborhood this weekend for the Yankees series, it brings back a lot of memories of how electric this town gets, especially when there’s a big series like that and when your team plays well. It brings back a lot of memories that I miss,” Wood reflected on coming to Wrigley Field.
Wood will join teammate Ramírez going into the Hall of Fame. There will be a lot of excitement and emotions shared on Sunday afternoon for the pregame ceremony at Wrigley Field.
“It’s exciting and to be here with ‘Rammie’ [Ramírez],” Wood said. “I’ve played with him for a long time and he hit some huge home runs for me when I was pitching – for us as a team and organization. Those were great years. We had fun and won a lot of games and so I’m excited to go in with him. It’s an honor to be here with these group of guys.”
