‘So much to be excited about’: Kim Ng on the state of women’s sports
Women’s lacrosse and softball are coming to Marquee Sports Network beginning on Aug. 4 in partnership with Athletes Unlimited, a network of professional women’s sports leagues (including softball).
On Sunday afternoon’s “Cubs Live!”, Senior Advisor for Athletes Unlimited and former Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng shared the story about how she got involved after meeting with Jon Patricof and Jonathan Soros, the organization’s co-founders.
In the years following that meeting, Ng has expressed how encouraged she is with the state of women’s sports. She specifically referenced the nearly 19 million viewers that tuned in for the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship between South Carolina and Iowa.
Ng’s excitement was expressed even further when discussing the state of women’s softball and the top flight talent currently in the game.
“In terms of women’s sports, gosh, what can you say?” Ng said. “So much to be excited about between Caitlin Clark and basketball and the number of viewers they got for that final game – close to 19 million. Compare it to average of baseball, hockey, World Series, Stanley Cup – almost double that. … Pretty interesting in terms of what’s going on in terms of women’s sports and how we’re stacking value for those franchise, commercialization. It’s pretty interesting.”

And tune in on Marquee Sports Network on Aug. 4 for women’s lacrosse at 2:30 p.m. and softball at 4:30 p.m.
