Marquee Sports Network to air Ryne Sandberg Statue Ceremony on Sunday
The Chicago Cubs will host a statue dedication ceremony in honor of Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg at 3 PM CT on Sunday, June 23, the 40th anniversary of the “Sandberg Game.” The ceremony will be hosted by Cole Wright and air live on Marquee Sports Network and the Marquee Sports Network App.
Sandberg will be the fifth Cubs player to have a statue erected at Wrigley Field, joining Cubs legends Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo and Billy Williams at Statue Row along with Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Caray. The statue dedication ceremony will include remarks from Cubs Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts, former teammates Larry Bowa and Shawon Dunston, and sportscaster Bob Costas, who called the Sandberg Game.
The ceremony will be part of a full day of Ryne Sandberg programming on Marquee Sports Network:

DETAILS ON THE STATUE:
The piece was commissioned by The Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt-Amrany, the same company that produced the statues of Banks, Caray, Jenkins, Santo and Williams at Wrigley Field, and the Michael Jordan statue outside Chicago’s United Center. Lou Cella is the statue’s sculptor.
DETAILS ON SANDBERG’S CAREER:
Sandberg played 15 seasons of his 16-year major league career with the Cubs (1982-97) and led the Cubs to N.L. East Division titles in 1984 and 1989. In 1984, Sandberg was named N.L. Most Valuable Player that season, hitting a career-best .314 while leading the league in runs (114) and triples (19). He was a 10-time All-Star with the Cubs, a nine-time Gold Glove winner and a seven-time Silver Slugger winner. In 2005, Sandberg was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame after finishing his career with a .285 batting average, 1061 RBI and 282 home runs.
