Sky’s Elizabeth Williams stepping into mentorship role in 10th WNBA season

6 months agoKarli Bell

Entering into her 10th year in the WNBA, Chicago Sky center Elizabeth Williams has entered into a leadership and mentorship role for the plethora of new faces in the franchise.

However, Williams is also leaning on new head coach Teresa Weatherspoon as her source of extra fire and motivation both on and off the court.

“She’s always been someone that’s been doubted and overlooked, and she does such a great job of turning that as fuel and energy and excitement and just a competitive nature. She’s able to bring that to players and we all feel it and see it. You want to compete and play for a coach that has that type of energy,” Williams said.

While Williams is going to bring that energy to blocked shots and rebounding in the paint, she’s also finding new energy off the court in continuing her education. Williams is in her internship semester in Arizona State’s graduate school as she pursues her masters in global health.

“To me it’s kind of a social justice issue, especially coming out of the pandemic and seeing how people really struggled in taking care of themselves,” Williams said. “You can’t work and you can’t live if you’re not healthy. That’s how I view it. I think it’s a really unique space and I want people to feel like they can be their best selves.”
