A pair of new Cubs will forever be commemorated for their roles in the franchise’s history.

Mark Grace and Shawon Dunston were announced as the newest members of the Cubs Hall of Fame on Friday night. The group will be immortalized later this year with plaques underneath the Wrigley Field bleachers.

Grace was a 24th round pick in the 1985 draft by the Cubs and spent 13 years from 1988 to 2000 with the team. He hit .308/.386/.445 with 456 doubles, 148 home runs and 1,004 RBI in his time on the North Side. Grace was a 4-time Gold Glove winner with the Cubs and was named to 3 All-Star Games in his tenure.

He was stellar for the Cubs in the 1989 NLCS against the Giants, hitting .647 (11-for-17) with a home run, 3 doubles and 8 RBI. In the Cubs’ lone win of the series — a 9-5 Game 2 win — he went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Grace led the team in almost every statistical category offensively in 1993 — average (.325), OBP (.393), hits (193), doubles (39), RBI (98) and walks (71). 

No Major League Baseball player had more hits (1,754) or doubles (364) in the 1990s than Grace.  

Dunston was the first overall pick in the 1982 draft for the Cubs and spent 12 seasons on the North Side from 1985 to 1995 and in 1997. He was a 2-time All-Star for the Cubs, once in 1988 and then again in 1990 and hit .267/.295/.407 with 107 HR and 489 RBI.

Known for his strong arm, Dunston partnered up with Ryne Sandberg to form a fan-favorite double-play tandem. That pair helped lead the team to the 1989 NLCS, where he hit .316.
