2 years agoEdgy Tim

With the 2022 Illinois High School football season officially in the books, it’s time for Edgy Tim’s 23rd annual All State Team.

Head to EdgyTim.Rivals.com for more coverage.

QB Blainey Dowling, Chicago Mount Carmel

From the opening game to the Class 7A state championship win, Blainey Dowling was a difference-maker for the Caravan and head coach Jordan Lynch. Dowling has the resume (2,981 yards passing, 43 touchdowns) and his overall game has risen several levels higher in 2022. Dowling played on a mission and had a fearless approach and attacked opposing defenses week in and week out. Uncommitted.

RB Andre Crews, Simeon

Simeon senior RB Andre Crews was an unquestioned leader and game-breaker for the Wolverines and head coach Dante Culbreath in 2022. Crews’ 2,307 yards and 40 rushing touchdowns is impressive, yet his overall combination of speed, power and vision was exceptional. Uncommitted.

RB Malachi Washington, Peoria

Peoria senior RB Malachi Washington also put up some highly impressive numbers including an eye popping 3,360 yards rushing and 53 touchdowns this season. Washington runs with a nice mix of speed and power and just seemed to get stronger with every carry in 2022. When the stage became bigger, Washington’s overall game also rose to the occasion. Uncommitted.

WR Cam Williams, Glenbard South

Glenbard South junior 4-star ranked WR Cam Williams’ overall game, off-the-charts physical tools and his impact in all three phases of the game was clearly evident this season. Williams plays with a higher level of awareness and seems to be already made and ready for the Power 5 level. Notre Dame commit.

WR Lynel Billips-Williams, Crete Monee

Crete-Monee senior WR Lynel Billips-Williams was simply the definition of wiggle, burst and explosiveness who was an impact player in all three phases of the game. Billips-Williams broke the school record (set by Laquon Treadwell) for receiving yards (1,636 yards) and touchdown receptions (21 touchdowns) in a single season in 2022. Teams also purposely kicked the football away from him all season long. Miami of Ohio commit.

TE Christian Bentancur, Marian Central Catholic

Marian Central Catholic junior 4-star ranked tight end Christian Bentancur was the Hurricanes’ main weapon this past season. Bentancur caught 54 passes for 1,078 yards while also adding 7 sacks on defense this past season. Bentancur is currently holding an impressive 34 Power 5 scholarship offers so far this early winter.

OL Miles McVay, East St. Louis

East St. Louis 4-star ranked offensive tackle Miles McVay is one of the longest tenured players in the State of Illinois after being a rare four-year varsity starter for the Class 6A State Champion Flyers and head coach Darren Sunkett. McVay’s overall growth and development over the past four years (also under a bright recruiting spotlight) has been exceptional. McVay is also a rare EDGYTIM/Rivals.com 3-time All State team member. Alabama commit.

OL Paris Patterson, East St. Louis

East St Louis senior 4-star ranked offensive guard Paris Patterson also was a dominant player over the past four season for the Flyers. Patterson was able to physically manhandle most opponents at the high school level and his overall game and down the line potential at the Power 5 level is high. Arkansas commit.

OL TJ McMillen, Wheaton St. Francis

Wheaton St. Francis senior 3- star ranked OL TJ McMillen is another long term starter and impact player for the Spartans and his head coach and dad, Bob McMillen. TJ McMillen’s combination of quickness, technique and sheer brute force is next level. Look for McMillen to have every chance to compete for early playing time at Illinois. Illinois commit.

OL Chris Terek, Glenbard West

Glenbard West senior 4-star ranked offensive tackle Chris Terek follows in a long line of successful big men coming out of the Hilltoppers football program under head coach Chad Hetlet. Terek, who was able to physically transform his body this past offseason, also saw his recruiting stock rise along with his impressive play in 2022. Notre Dame commit.

OL Asher Tomaszewski, Chicago Mount Carmel

Mount Carmel senior 3-star ranked OL/DL Asher Tomaszewski was another two-way starter and impact player for the Class 7A state champion Caravan in 2022. Tomaszewski was a dominant player up front this season whose combination of power, strength and flat out nastiness on the field was very evident. Kansas State commit.

ATH Tyler Vasey, Prairie Ridge

Prairie Ridge Tyler Vasey had a season for the ages in 2022. Vasey set the IHSA single season rushing record (3,883 yards) as the Wolves option quarterback. Vasey, who was also a dangerous kick return and punt return specialist along with playing defensive back, was simply one of the most explosive players I saw live in 2022. Uncommitted.

K/P Conor Talty, St Rita

St. Rita senior K/P Conor Talty was maybe one of the most fun players to watch this past season. Talty, whose ability to kick and punt equally well, was simply a must-see during warmups whether before or at halftime in 2022. Talty was also money in games and his ability to hit field goals (has 50 plus yard range) along with booming punts plus exceptional hang time on punts and kickoffs was exceptional all season long. Alabama commit.

DL Marquise Lightfoot, Kenwood

Kenwood junior 4-star ranked DE Marquise Lightfoot was an impact player this season for the Broncos and head coach Sinque Turner. Lightfoot, at times, took over as a rush defensive end. Lightfoot has exceptional quickness, explosiveness and length and his overall recruiting stock will continue to soar this off season. Lightfoot reminds me of former Morgan Park/Michigan State and NFL DE Demetrius Cooper at this stage of his high school career.

DL Brooks Bahr, Loyola Academy

Loyola Academy senior 3-star ranked defensive linemen Brooks Bahr was also a big time impact player on one of the state top overall defenses in 2022. Bahr, who has the ability and physical tools to be equally effective either inside or outside on the defensive line, forced more than a few opponents to pretty much avoid his side of the field in 2022. Michigan commit.

DL Eddie Tuerk, Lyons Township

Lyons Township junior 4-star ranked DL Eddie Tuerk basically never left the field while playing at a very high level on the offensive and defensive line. Tuerk was able to show college coaches his ability to play with an impressive combination of power and speed, has plenty of pass rush moves and plays with an impressive non-stop motor. Tuerk is also still a work in progress physically and has the frame to add even more good weight and strength over the next year plus. Uncommitted.

DL Roderick Pierce III, Brother Rice

Brother Rice senior 3-star ranked defensive tackle Roderick Pierce III is another name from the ESCC/CCL Blue who at times was one of the most dominant players on the defensive line this fall. Pierce, who recently decommitted from Wisconsin, is a versatile player who’s capable of playing inside or outside at the Power 5 level. Uncommitted.

LB Tyler Jansey, Batavia

Batavia senior 3-star ranked ILB Tyler Jansey has been one of the most productive and biggest impact players in program history under head coach Dennis Piron. Jansey, who added running back to his already busy work load at linebacker, is a non stop worker who just continues to make plays all over the field. Wisconsin commit.

LB Jake Scianna, Lincoln Way East

Lincoln Way East’s Jake Scianna is an old school throwback type of linebacker whose ability to get quickly to the football and finish tackles is highly impressive. Scianna, who played the entire 2022 season on a torn ACL, made 89 tackles in 2022 and was the Griffins team captain and leader of one of the state’s top defenses this past season. Uncommitted.

LB Matt Kingsbury, St Rita

St Rita senior ILB Matt Kingsbury was one of several key impact starters on the Mustangs defense in 2022. Kingsbury, who was named as the Tony Lawless award winner this season for the Class 7A semifinalist Mustangs, is a big, strong and very physical inside linebacker who made plays from sideline to sidelines. Uncommitted.

ATH Drew Surges, St. Charles North

St. Charles North senior RB/LB Drew Surges was simply “The Man” for the North Stars and head coach Rob Pomazak in 2022. Surges, who was an impact player on both sides of the football in 2022, posted 98 tackles for the North Stars along with posting 6 tackles for loss. Uncommitted.

DB John Nestor, Marist

Chicago Marist senior 3-star ranked S John Nestor was one of the biggest hitters and best finishers in the state this season. Nestor has an impressive mix of size and speed while also having high level quickness and ball awareness. Nestor can and will cover receivers, backs or right ends equally well and is a plus player in run support. Iowa commit.

DB Justin Taylor, Nazareth Academy

Nazareth Academy senior 3-star ranked S Justin Taylor has been an impact player for the Road Runners since his freshman season and in many ways Taylor saved his best season for 2022. Taylor plays both receiver and safety, has an uncanny nose for the football and a knack for making big plays on either side of the football. Wisconsin commit.

DB Jailen Duffie, Warren Township

Warren Township senior S Jailen Duffie saw his season ended a little earlier than he wanted after an injury sidelined him, yet his impact on the Blue Devils was evident this fall. Duffie is a high level athlete with very good speed and twitch, has great overall instincts and is also a top notch finisher at either corner or safety. North Dakota State commit.

DB KJ Parker, IC Catholic Prep

IC Catholic Prep 3-star ranked junior WR/DB KJ Parker had an eye-opening 2022 season on both sides of the football. Parker, who is holding multiple Power 5 scholarship offers, was a ball hawk in the Knights secondary and a big time play maker on either side of the football for the Class 3A state champion Knights. Uncommitted.
