Ian Happ’s career year keeps getting better.

Thursday afternoon, Happ was named an NL Gold Glove finalist at left field. Happ joined David Peralta (who started the year with the Diamondbacks before being traded to the Rays) and the Brewers’ Christian Yelich.

Happ had 8 assists this season to go along with 13 defensive runs saved, per FanGraphs. After bouncing across the field defensively to begin his career, Happ was named the team’s left fielder and owned the position.

“We put him in left and he’s owned that,” David Ross said in Cincinatti during the final series of the season. “He’s one of the best left fielders in the game.”

Happ turned around his game overall, earning an All-Star game appearance this season and posting a 4.3 WAR and a .271/.342/.440 slash line.

Happ represented the Cubs’ only Gold Glove finalist this season.

Nico Hoerner, who was second in the National League among shortstops in Outs Above Average, was not a finalist for the NL Gold Glove at short. Atlanta’s Dansby Swanson, Miami’s Miguel Rojas and San Diego’s Ha-Seong Kim were the finalists for the award.
