The 2022 AT&T WNBA All-Star Game came to Chicago for the first time, and the Windy City welcomed in a litany of All-Stars with open arms. The city of Chicago put on a show for the WNBA, starting with the Orange carpet on Friday and finishing with the game on Sunday.

Sunday – Team Wilson outlasts Team Stewart, 134-112

The Chicago Sky not only hosted the All-Star Game but were also well-represented with Candace Parker, Kahleah Copper, Courtney Vandersloot, Emma Meesseman and head coach James Wade.

“I want to give a shoutout to Chicago, because I know I’m partial but I think this was a damn good All-Star game,” Parker said after the game. “To be able to come back to a place where I first started playing basketball is unbelievable. To be able to represent Chicago day in and day out is amazing.”

Team Wilson came out with the win over Team Stewart, 134-112.

The two teams were captained by Seattle’s Breanna Stewart and Las Vegas’ A’ja Wilson. Wade coached Team Stewart while Aces’ head coach Becky Hammon coached Team Wilson. Sky players were split amongst the two teams with Parker and Vandersloot on Team Wilson and Copper and Meesseman on Team Stewart.

Parker finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists while Vandersloot put up 8 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for Team Wilson. Copper and Meesseman put up 8 points a piece for Team Stewart.

However, it was Kelsey Plum, Jonquel Jones and Jewell Loyd who shot lights out in Wintrust Arena with Plum earning the title of MVP. Plum finished with a stellar stat line of 30 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds, tying a WNBA record with most points scored in an All-Star game.

Saturday – Allie Quigley makes history winning fourth 3-point contest

Chicago’s own Allie Quigley made history by being the first professional basketball player, NBA or WNBA, to win more than three 3-point contests in her career. She picked up her fourth title in five appearances. 

In the first round, Quigley scored 26 points, pushing her into the final round against Washington’s Ariel Atkins and Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard. 

“After [I got the first round] out of the way, I was feeling pretty good. I was like, ‘All right, this is your time. Go for it,’” Quigley said laughing afterwards.

In the final round, she put up a whopping 30 points, defeating Atkins’ 21 points and Howard’s 14 points.

The MTN Dew 3-point contest and WNBA Skills Challenge took place inside McCormick Place.

Friday – Walking the Orange Carpet

Friday was the day of festivities for the WNBA with their very own Orange Carpet held at RPM Events. Chicago’s own Allie Quigley and Courtney Vandersloot walked the carpet together.

Candace Parker and Kahleah Copper joined a bit later, walking solo. 

Sky head coach and general manager James Wade and Emma Meesseman wrapped up the Sky representation on the Orange Carpet.
