Next up: David Ross’ Final Regular Season Home Game

David Ross has a flair for the dramatic.

Everyone knows about the home run he hit in his final at-bat during Game 7 of the World Series. He did the same thing in his final regular season at-bat at Wrigley Field.

He took a 1-0 pitch from the Cardinals’ Carlos Martínez and deposited it deep into the left field bleachers to give the Cubs the lead. With two outs in the 7^th, Joe Maddon went to the mound for what most assumed was a pitching change.

Maddon made a change at catcher, giving Ross one final standing ovation from the 40,859 fans in attendance.

• David Ross’ home run was his 10^th of the season, which was only the fourth time he reached double-digit home runs in his career
• Jon Lester went 6.2 IP, striking out 7 while not allowing a run
• Lester also tied a career-high with his 19^th win of the season
• This was the Cubs 99^th win of the season
• The Cubs finished the regular season with a record of 57-24 (.704) at home, which is the most wins by a Cubs team at Wrigley Field ever in a single season
