On This Day in 2016: David Ross homers in final regular season at-bat at Wrigley Field
Five years ago, the Cubs embarked on a historic journey that will go down as one of the most impactful seasons in professional sports.
Throughout 2021, we’re taking a look back at some of the best moments from the incredible 2016 campaign.
Next up: David Ross’ Final Regular Season Home Game
David Ross has a flair for the dramatic.
Everyone knows about the home run he hit in his final at-bat during Game 7 of the World Series. He did the same thing in his final regular season at-bat at Wrigley Field.
He took a 1-0 pitch from the Cardinals’ Carlos Martínez and deposited it deep into the left field bleachers to give the Cubs the lead. With two outs in the 7th, Joe Maddon went to the mound for what most assumed was a pitching change.
Maddon made a change at catcher, giving Ross one final standing ovation from the 40,859 fans in attendance.
