Marquee Sports Network Notes – Week of May 3

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Beth Mowins fills-in for Boog Sciambi this weekend (May 8-9)
  • Rick Sutcliffe joins the broadcast booth all week
  • Iowa Cubs on Marquee on Thursday and Friday

WELCOME, BETH! Beth Mowins makes her regular season Cubs TV debut this weekend, calling the games alongside Jim Deshaies on Saturday and Sunday as the Cubs host Pittsburgh. She will become the first woman to serve as Cubs play-by-play broadcaster for a regular season game. During Spring Training, she called one game remotely from Wrigley Field. Mowins has been a broadcaster for ESPN since 1994, calling primarily men’s and women’s college sports, and has been the voice of the Women’s Softball College World Series for more than 20 years.

AND HELLO AGAIN, SUT: Rick Sutcliffe joins the broadcast booth at Wrigley Field all week, alongside Jon Sciambi and Jim Deshaies. Sutcliffe posted a 3.74 ERA in 193 games with the Cubs from 1984-91, including winning the 1984 NL Cy Young Award.

AAAWESOME PROGRAMMING: Catch the Triple-A Iowa Cubs on Marquee Sports Network on Thursday and Friday as the I-Cubs host Indianapolis. Both games begin at 7 p.m. CT. Iowa is managed by Marty Pevey and will feature a number of top prospects and former big leaguers (Full Iowa Cubs roster here). Cubs top 30 prospect Cory Abbott is projected to be the starting pitcher for Thursday’s contest. 


BEST OF CUBS LIVE!: Cole Wright and Marquee’s team of on-air talent had an eventful opening month on Cubs Live! presented by Toyota. Check out the “Best of April” on Cubs Live! featuring antics from Rick Sutcliffe, Dan Plesac, Sean Marshall, Ryan Sweeney and many more. Cubs Live! airs beginning one hour prior to every Marquee game broadcast.


DOUG GLANVILLE SPEAKS ABOUT CLASS IS IN SESSION: With four episodes of his new show Class is in Session with Doug Glanville in the books, Glanville penned an essay about what the show means to him and the origin of what drives him to be so involved in trying to bring people together and serve as a unifying voice. Past episodes are available on the Marquee Sports Network App


STRAT-O-MATIC: Marquee Sports Network is continuing its relationship with Strat-O-Matic that began last season. Throughout the season, Marquee will be featuring game simulations using Strat-O-Matic technology on the pregame show and during game broadcasts. This past week, Marquee simulated a contest between the all-time Braves and the all-time Cubs.


A PINT FOR KIM: On Sunday’s pregame show, Marquee Sports Network analyst Ryan Sweeney promoted an upcoming blood drive near to his heart, “A Pint For Kim”. The blood drive is taking place this Saturday, May 8 at JA Air Center at Aurora Municipal Airport. For more information, visit https://apintforkim.com/.
