NFL rumors: Bears ‘praying’ Ashton Jeanty slips to No. 10 pick

With the 2025 NFL Draft just three days away, which player the Chicago Bears will select with their first-round pick is an ongoing debate amongst local and national media.

Multiple mock drafts have the Bears taking an offensive lineman with the No. 10 pick, while others predict a defensive lineman will be the selection. Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty also have been linked to the Bears.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah believes the Bears could address their biggest long-term need by drafting an offensive lineman, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter offered the latest buzz about who the Bears could choose.

“There are multiple personnel people who believe the Bears are praying that Jeanty slips to them at No. 10,” Schefter wrote Monday. “They think new Bears coach Ben Johnson could feature Jeanty and D’Andre Swift as a two-headed duo the way the Lions did with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs when Johnson was Detroit’s offensive coordinator.”

Jeanty, the 2024 Heisman Trophy runner-up, recently published a letter to The Players’ Tribune showing his confidence in himself heading into the draft.

Jeanty was a superstar at Boise State, rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns last season and adding another 138 yards on 23 receptions (plus a receiving touchdown). The 21-year-old averaged 7.0 yards per carry throughout his junior season.

If Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles are “praying” Jeanty falls to them at No. 10, Bears fans are joining them, as a running back tandem of D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson and Jeanty would be a dream scenario for them heading into the 2025 season.

Johnson had a solid one-two combination in Detroit with Montgomery and Gibbs. The idea of him creating his own dynamic dup in Chicago wouldn’t be far-fetched.
